President

Thomas A. Kardish, Ed.D. has served as president of Salesianum School since July 2021. He is just the fifth president in the nearly 125-year history of the school.

Tom earned an AB magna cum laude from Harvard University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation from the Steinhardt School of New York University.
Prior to his appointment at Salesianum, Tom served for six years as the president of Villa Joseph Marie High School, an all-girls Catholic college-preparatory school in Holland, Pennsylvania. Tom’s tenure at Villa was marked by extraordinary progress, including the construction of a state-of-the art-theater, renovation of the Sisters’ convent for use as STEM classrooms, a 25% increase in enrollment, and a general repositioning of the school in the marketplace in relation to college admissions.

Tom’s strength as a results-driven, pragmatic educational leader is rooted in his unique professional experience as an executive and also a small business owner.

Tom began his career in pharmaceuticals, eventually serving as the Country Director in the United Kingdom for what was then SmithKline Beecham, launching consumer products in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Switzerland.

He later purchased a small local building supply company, Doylestown Lumber, which he owned and operated with his wife Christine for more than a decade, tripling revenue to $20 million and growing to a staff of 65. While leading Doylestown Lumber, Tom helped found Charter Partners Insurance Company, a captive insurance company for like-minded and like-sized businesses in construction, materials, and heavy industry.

Tom is passionate about Catholic education, having sent all four of his children to Catholic school from grades K-12. He is active in his parish and helped found a health clinic in Port au Prince, Haiti, leading dozens of parish missions and school trips to minister to the people of Port au Prince and Bois de Laurence.

Beyond his service to Haiti, Tom continues to serve Harvard’s admissions office, leading alumni interviews and scholarships as Chair of the Schools Committee for the five-county Philadelphia area. He was also selected by Harvard to serve as an advisor to Harvard’s iLab Business Incubator, which uses public narrative to build equitable and inclusive communities. In October 2023, Tom was awarded the Miller-Hunn Prize by Harvard for his contributions to the university’s recruitment effort over the last 40 years.

Passionate about interscholastic athletics, Tom won first year numerals in two sports and three varsity letters while at Harvard. He played and managed semi-pro baseball for several years after college. While in England, Tom played for Barnes in the English league captaining one national champion and also managed the British National Baseball Team. He continues to keep a close eye on baseball’s international growth.

While Tom’s title may be head of school, he is equally proud to moderate Salesianum’s fly-fishing club, building on a life-long passion. When he’s not watching Salesianum students perform and succeed across Delaware, he can be found fishing the Brodhead Creek in Cresco, Pennsylvania.
