Admissions Process

Placement Exams

The school administers the Closed Catholic High School Placement Exam (HSPT)

Salesianum School requires a placement Exam for all incoming 8th graders. The exam will be held in October, and a completed registration in onCampus, our parent portal, will be required to register your son. Students scoring in the top percentile may qualify for a merit scholarship.

This national exam is used by 85% of Catholic high schools to assess prospective students. An HSPT Prep Course will also be offered in the summer to help students prepare. Find out more information and register here.

We offer an optional 7th-Grade Exam in March. Registration will be available in January. Academic scholarships are awarded to a student based on his score on the exam. Students scoring in the top percentile may qualify.

  • Placement Exam for Incoming 8th Graders

    Salesianum uses the admissions exam as the primary tool for evaluating candidates; however, the student’s transcript, teacher recommendations, and legacy status are also important. Please see below for exam accommodations for students with special learning needs, and visit our Educational Support page for more information about our program. All of our 8th-grade applicants must take the Placement Exam. Academic scholarships are awarded to a student based on his score on the exam. Students scoring in the top percentile may qualify.   • Testing Accomodations

    Salesianum is pleased to offer testing accommodations for students taking the Placement Examination. Necessary documentation will need to be submitted to the Admissions team before taking the exam Documentation requirements include:
    • A complete recent psycho-educational evaluation for students with learning differences including ADD/ADHD. The evaluation must have been completed within the last two years. For students with physical limitations, a letter or report from a medical doctor outlining the specific diagnosis, his/her title, and contact information is required.
    -OR-
    • A copy of the current IEP, 504 Plan, or a letter from the student's current school counselor, teacher, or administrator specifying those accommodations routinely used by the student in his current academic setting.

  • Testing Details

    Test Details: 
    • The exam will be held at Salesianum. Students are permitted to bring a water bottle or a snack if needed. 
    • Calculators are not permitted.
    • Detailed information will be sent two days before the exam. 
    • To study for the exam, we recommend using the current edition of the Master the Catholic High Schools Entrance Exams.
    • The best preparation is consistent study dedication and a good night’s sleep.
  • 7th Grade Exam

    Seventh graders are invited to take the exam on March 8, 2025. Registration for the March exam will be available in late January. A completed registration reserves a seat for this exam. This is optional and helps students become comfortable with and aware of the testing format. Early candidate scholarships are awarded to students based on their exam scores. Students scoring in the top percentile may qualify. All students are required to take the Placement Exam in 8th grade. 

Placement Testing Dates
