Edward "Mike" Rush '66 Legacy Continues with Salesianum Award

The Mike Rush Award is a scholarship named in honor of Edward "Mike" Rush, a distinguished member of the class of 1966. Beyond his dedication to his wife and daughters, Mike was known across the region as a dedicated public servant, serving the Wilmington Manor Fire Department and other local fire departments for fifty years. His impact resonates across the region even three years after his passing at seventy-one years old. Mike was recognized regionally and nationally for his valor and dedication, earning distinctions as firefighter of the year, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Castle County Firefighters Association, and the title of Lifetime Instructor from the Delaware State Fire School. In honor of Mike's enduring legacy, his classmates from the Class of 1966 established the Mike Rush Award. With a collective contribution of $70,000, this fund now provides scholarships to Salesianum students actively serving their communities as volunteer firefighters or medics. 

Salesianum welcomed Mike's wife, Winnie, and his two daughters, Barbara and Megan, for a special ceremony commemorating the Rush Award during Prep. The occasion was even more special with the presence of select members from the Class of 1966, who returned to Salesianum to celebrate not only the legacy of their esteemed classmate but also this year's deserving recipients. Seniors Jacob Ziegler, a junior firefighter at Talleyville Fire Company, and Cameron Cairns, a dedicated servant at Wagontown Volunteer Fire Company, received the Mike Rush Award this year. We congratulate Jacob and Cameron for their outstanding service and thank the members of the Class of 1966 for their generosity in ensuring Mike's legacy continues to inspire future generations of dedicated public servants.
