SS. Simon and Jude Parish
3/8/2012

SS. Simon and Jude Parish in West Chester is in need of help as follows:

Children’s Liturgy of the Word needs both leaders and shepherds at the 9:00 and 10:30 Masses on Sundays. Leaders present the First Reading and the Gospel in child-friendly language, and engage the children in discussions of what they’ve heard. Shepherds keep an eye on the behavior of the children. Training would be provided. These roles are very rewarding, and could benefit those students who might have an interest in pursuing a career in education. Assignments are done on a rotating basis, so the involvement would require an hour every five to six weeks for both leaders and shepherds. Leaders would also need to do discussion preparation during the week prior to their assigned Sundays. Anyone who is interested in doing this can contact Brian Jefferes, Coordinator for Children’s Liturgy of the Word at SS. Simon and Jude, at relbj@kennett.net, or Kathy Cummiskey, Assistant Coordinator, at cummiskeyk@yahoo.com.

The other organization in need of student volunteers is the Alpha program. This program meets on Thursday nights, and needs help in both setup and cleanup. Setup primarily involves lifting and setting up tables and chairs, and is usually done from 5:15 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. Cleanup is done from approximately 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., and is primarily comprised of dismantling tables and folding and stacking chairs. Students interested in providing service to the Alpha program should contact Maureen Doran at mfdorancm@yahoo.com.
