Brisson Center Services

Named after Fr. Louis Brisson, OSFS who with Sr. Mary de Sales Chappuis, VHM co-founded the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, the Brisson Center opened in the fall of 2009. This learning center provides a space for students to receive support and assistance from the Director of Educational Support Services and members of the faculty.

 

More than just a space, the Brisson Center offers a variety of support services to assist students to become self-sufficient and academically successful learners.

 

Freshmen and Transfer Students

 

Services that are offered during the first quarter but not required include, but are not limited to:

  • Careful review of academic records and medical and psycho-educational documentation.
  • Personal interviews with student and parents.
  • Development of an academic accommodations and support plan.
  • A workshop for students to assist them in successfully completing summer reading assignments.
  • A Saturday workshop for parents to assist them in understanding Salesianum’s plan book, grading policies, and web-based and on-line programs.
  • A Saturday workshop for students to assist them in successfully using the textbook and supporting materials in social studies.
  • A Saturday workshops for students to assist them in successfully using the textbook and supporting materials in science.
  • A Saturday workshop for students to assist them in successfully using the textbook and supporting materials in mathematics.
  • The After School Study Program offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from dismissal until 3:15 to assist students in seeking additional assistance from their teachers or from a peer tutor.

 

Additional services available to students having academic difficulty during the second, third and fourth quarters:

  • An hour of Supervised Study on Monday and Wednesday afternoons to assist students with organizational and time management skills.
  • ZAP-HR: An hour of monitored assistance on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons for students having problems with completion of homework.

 

This a fee based service.


Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors

 

Students may be registered to receive Brisson Center Services for a full year. These services would include enrollment in Supervised Study and ZAP-HR on an as needed basis for all four quarters of the academic year and monitoring of open time in the Brisson Center as space is available.

Students may enroll in Supervised Study or in ZAP-HR for one quarter on an as needed basis.
