State Championships: 2013/14 & 2014/2015

The Salesianum basketball program began with the junior class of 1912-13 under the direction of Fr. Francis Mahoney, OSFS.

Salesianum basketball teams competed in the Philadelphia Catholic League for 24 years from 1920-1944. On Feb. 9, 1920, Stan Rzcyek scored 40 points in a game against Dover. To date, this is the highest single game point total for one player in a game at Salesianum. The team earned three unofficial state titles, in 1923, 1927, and 1956. From 1988 to 2012, the team was coached by Mike Gallagher ’69, himself a football and basketball player during his time at Salesianum. In an interview with Examiner.com, Coach Gallagher said, “My goal was to have them understand that we were going to challenge you and test you to your physical limits, so you can be prepared for the things that life is going to throw at you, both on and off the court.”

Currently, the team is coached by Brendan Haley (Varsity Head Coach), Brandon Baffone, Dan Edgar and Fr. Chris Beretta (Asst. Coaches), William McGowan (JV Head Coach), Mark Janney (Varsity Asst.), Daniel Stroud (JV Asst.) and Jamie Igo (Fr. Head Coach).
