"You truly get to experience and learn about another part of the world every second of the student's stay, while sharing the American way of life." - Miguel Tapia '15
The Salesian Global Exchange Program provides students with an opportunity to travel abroad and to host students from schools that are similarly rooted in Saint Francis de Sales. Through arranged homestays, students gain a deeper understanding of different cultures while identifying with our partner schools’dedication to Salesian values and global education. It is our belief that truly experiencing everyday life in other countries first hand will in turn open their hearts and minds to the world's cultural diversity.
Salesianum prides itself in building lasting relationships with our Oblate schools around the world. Since 2009 we have participated in over 20 exchanges by hosting students who stay with Salesianum families and by sending our students abroad to participate in homestays. We currently collaborate with four Oblate schools abroad which share our Salesian values and promote global learning. These are:
- Colegio y Liceo Mariano Montevideo, Uruguay
- Ecole Collège Lycée Saint Michel Annecy, France
- Gymnasium und ORG Dachsberg, Austria
- Kepler Gymnasium Pforzheim, Germany
Criteria for participation in exchange: Students between the ages of 15-17 with excellent behavior records and solid academic peformance are eligible for exchange. A completed application packet is required, as well as an interview with an exchange coordinator demonstrating good social skills and an interest in travel and cultural diversity.
Hosting a student in your home: Many Salesian families have enjoyed the cultural learning and positive social interaction that comes from hosting exchange students in their homes. Families provide room and board for the duration of the 10-12 day exchange. Exchange students attend classes with their Salesian host brothers every day, and participate in planned excursions.
Please contact Jennifer Vintigni for further exchange information.
