Salesianum Seniors Robert Haffey and Nicholas Roy Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

Salesianum seniors Robert Haffey and Nicholas Roy have been named semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are eligible to be named National Merit Scholars when the awards are designated in spring of 2010. Robert is from Glenn Mills, PA and is the son of Robert and Kathleen Haffey; Andrew is from Elkton, MD and is the son of Andrew and Kelli Marie Roy.

From more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program, roughly 16,000 were named Semifinalists. They were designated on a state representational basis, in proportion to each state’s percentage of the national total of high school graduating seniors. In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a semifinalist had to become a finalist by fulfilling several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance. All winners of about 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards will be announced in the spring.

Salesianum School is a Roman Catholic independent secondary school that teaches young men to Live Jesus, guided by the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, through a college preparatory education, enabling them to take their place in the world as Salesian gentlemen.
